About PHL
Defending every life in NEPA for over 50 years.
We haven't changed our mission. We're making the whole mission visible.
Our Mission
Defend life at every stage.
We exist to defend and support vulnerable lives — preborn through natural death. We do this through education, partnerships, tangible support, and community engagement, so that every life in our region is recognized, protected, and valued.
Our Vision
A community that respects every life.
We envision a Northeast Pennsylvania where no life is treated as disposable — where mothers are supported, the disabled are embraced, the elderly are honored, the dying are accompanied, and the preborn are welcomed. A genuine culture of life.
Our Story
A legacy that began in the early 1970s.
Founded in the early 1970s, our Scranton Chapter has spent more than five decades educating and serving the communities of Northeast PA. Through the leadership of longtime advocates like Helen Gohsler and many others, our work has grown from defending the preborn into a whole-life mission.
Today, that mission is more visible than ever. We believe the pro-life movement must do more than oppose — it must show up, educate, and serve. Our work spans five core communities and rests on four pillars, and it is carried out by board members, volunteers, and partners who believe that every moment of life matters.

What makes us different
Not a single-issue org. A whole-life movement.
Grassroots & on the ground
Community-based work that meets real people where they are — not a distant, single-issue umbrella organization.
We have a product: Education
Education is what draws people in and changes hearts and minds. It's the foundation everything else is built on.
Whole-life, every stage
From the preborn to the terminally ill, we defend life at every stage and in every condition.
